Coaster Of The Day got the opportunity to attend Busch Gardens Williamsburg's Opening Day 2012. Overall it was a very fun and interesting day at the park.
We got there about 10 a.m. and the park had a decent crowd. First we went straight to Griffon to get on it first. Thankfully, there was no wait, and we only waited two trains for front row. We all did it a few more times, then a line started to form. I truly forgot how great this Coaster was and fell in love with it all over again. We then headed over to ride Le Scott Log Flume. After we went to go ride Alpengeist and again that also had a short wait of a few trains. It was again a great Coaster, but it gotten rough by the mid-course brake run. It then started to rain so we bought ponchos and went to go to ride Curse of DarKastle. That was the longest that we waited that day at the park. The wait was about 15 minuets, but it was well worth it. We then headed to ride Mach Tower. (Check out our Mach Tower Video) The wait was about 10 minuets, and it broke down for just a few minuets. It was also the fist time I was on Mach Tower. Overall, I was not truly that impressed with it. I am happy that BGW got a drop tower, however I wish it was better. All it did was go up slowly to get great views of the park, then a little drop. I wish they could have gotten a different Drop Tower style with a great castle theme, and also a launch (but we got what we got!)
After, we passed Verbolten, the parks new Coaster. Sadly, it was not open and still was under Construction (but we got a Construction Update of Verbolten!) The Coaster looked great and we wished we rode it! We then headed to ride Apollo's Chariot. Like the other Coasters, it had no wait. The last time I rode it (in 2009) I thought it was not that great, but I must have thought differently back then. Now I was highly impressed with it. It is a great B&M Mega Coaster, but not the best! We rode it a few times and went to eat lunch at Trapper’s Smokehouse. Although it was pricey (Chicken, Ribs, and a drink were about $20 dollars) but this was some of the best Amusement Park food I ever had. The Chicken and Ribs were some of the best I ever had. I highly suggest, if you go to BGW you must eat here! Again, its Trapper's Smokehouse, and it is near Griffon in the New France section of the park.
With a full stomach, we went to ride Loch Ness Monster. By the time we got there it was down-poring, we all were soaking wet. Thankfully The Loch Ness Monster station was empty. We rode it front row, which I kind of regretted. The heavy rain felt like it was hail was hitting our faces. (Here is a video of Loch Ness Monster at BGW, that we took then) We got about 5 rides in and then we took the Sky Ride over to Griffon. Griffon also had an almost empty station. I stayed there for almost two hours and got over 15 rides in. During those 15 times, it was still raining heavily and it hurt a lot! The day was almost over, and we headed over to get some famous Fudge and a large souviener cup filled with an ICEE. We took the Sky-ride to Apollos Chariot and got one final ride in. We got my friend Joe, who was deeply afraid of Roller Coasters, to ride it. We literary had to drag him on the Coaster. During the ride he would not stop cursing and screaming but after he loved it! He fell in love with Roller Coasters! *Hint of advice: For anyone too scared to ride a Roller Coaster, just ride it! Odds are your going to love it after you ride it!* We then ran out of time, so we headed back to the main entrance and sadly we left.
Overall, it was a great day at the park! The lines were very small, and we were able to get lots of rides on our favorite Coasters!
