May 5th, 2012 was Wooden Warrior Day 2012 at Quassy Amusement Park. Overall it was one of the best days at Quassy! Wooden Warrior Day is an event held by Quassy for Roller Coaster Enthusiasts. The day was filled with ERT, lunch buffet, and a special guest!
That day, the park was scheduled to open at noon. For registered guests, Wooden Warrior opened at approximately 10:35 a.m. About 100 guests quickly lined up to ride Wooden Warrior. During the ERT from 10:30 to noon, the wait time was about 10 minuets. After ERT (Exclusive Ride Time), lunch for guests opened up. Mostly everyone went straight for lunch, while the others stayed on Wooden Warrior. Then, there was no wait for the Coaster!
For lunch, the park provided a great buffet lunch including Burgers, Hot Dogs, Chicken, Pasta, and more! At approximately 1 pm, we had a special guest speaker. Micheal Graham, from the Gravity Group came and gave us a presentation showing off there Coasters. After that, there was an auction for many cool prizes, including mugs, shirts, posters, trains parts, and other goodies!
After lunch, everyone enjoyed the great small park. Thankfully, that day at the park was empty! The average wait for Wooden Warrior was a few minutes! Throughout the day, many people rode all there favorite, classic rides at Quassy! At 6 pm the park closed to the general public. However for us Wooden Warrior stayed open for another hour!
Overall, the day at the park was wonderful. Many people got a ton of rides in on one of the greatest Wooden Coasters - Wooden Warrior! (I got over 75 rides on it in one day!) We also got a lot of great videos, including an amazing front POV video, a back seat POV video and the FIRST reverse POV for Wooden Warrior. We also created a Wooden Warrior Documentary and many more videos and photos to be released soon!
On Saturday April 29th, 2012 the Coaster Of The Day team went to Six Flags Great Adventure. Surprisingly, this was our first time to the park in 2012. That day the park was very crowded. Here was our quick day:
We got to the park at about noon and the park was already packed. First thing we did was to go and process our season pass. By the time we got there the line was about 1.5 hours long. Sadly, we waited on the line. On line we took about 30 minuets of videos of Green Lantern and Superman Ultimate Flight. (Videos to be released soon!) Finally our passes were processed at 2:00. We headed over to El Toro and rode it once in the back row. The last time I rode it was in October and counted down every day since then to ride it again. El Toro is truly one of the best Coasters on the Planet. While we were over there, we got breathtaking videos of the Epic Wooden Coaster. It was already 3:30 and we headed over to see the latest Construction of Skyscreamer. (We took a Construction Update video of it!). By then it was 4:00 and we had to leave. Before we left however, we went through the magnificent Wild Safari. While we were in there, we took over 30 minuets of videos of the animals inside. (Videos to be released soon!) It was already 6:00 and we had to head home (which takes over 3 hours)
Overall it was an interesting day at the park. We only rode one ride - El Toro, (but it was well worth driving over 3 hours, just to ride El Toro!) We also took a lot of great videos and finally got our Season Passes Processed.
On Saturday April 21st, 2012 Coaster Of The Day went to Six Flags New England. The park opened at 10:00 am that morning, so we made sure we got there at 9:30. When the gates opened up at 9:55, there was a massive crowd that headed to Bizarro. We were escorted by Security to make sure no one would trample each other. We were on one of the first trains in the front row for the day. The last time I ride Bizarro was October and I missed it so much. It truly is one of the best Coasters on the planet. We rode it a few times and then a line started to form. We then got a lot of videos of Bizarro. (Videos to be released soon!)
We headed to the South End Section of the park. By the time we got to Batman, it was 11:00. The station was empty, so we rode it a few times. For being 10 years old, small, and compact, Batman is a great B&M Floorless Coaster. We then headed over to Mind Eraser to get our heads banged up. It was rough, but it was not that bad (maybe because we rode the front row). It also had a no wait because no one wants to ride that horrible Coaster. After that we headed to ride Splash-water Falls and it had about a 20 minute wait. It was a nice little fun raft ride, and we got a little wet. We then took a lot of videos and pictures of Mind Eraser and Batman (to be released soon!).
We then had lunch and took a Construction Update video of there newest Coaster, Goliath. The Coaster looks very good and will be a good addition to the park. We then went to go ride Catapult and Cyclone. Cyclone had a long wait due to only a one train operation. Instead we rode Pandemonium and went back to the car and took a small nap.
It was about 4 and we went back to the park. We then rode Thunderbolt and Scream. They both had 20 minute wait times. Finally, we went for one more ride for the day and went to Cyclone. We rode it in the first row, and surprisingly it was smooth! It was about 6 p.m. and it was time for us to leave. We wanted to stay to ride Bizarro one last time, but the line was too long (over 1.5 hours)
Overall it was a fun day at the park. The crowds were okay and we finally got to ride Bizarro for the 2012 season!
On Thursday April 5th, 2012 Coaster Of The Day was at Sea World Orlando. We got to the park about 30 minuets after it opened. First we headed over to ride Manta. The Coaster was a great B&M Flier, but not better than Tatsu at SFMM. It had a short wait, so we did it a few times. We then headed to ride Kraken. It also had a short wait. It was one of the best B&M Floorless Coasters. We then headed over to the Shamu Stadium to watch a show of One Ocean. The show was spectacular and truly amazing.
We then headed to have a quick lunch and rode Manta and Kraken again. They had about a 20 minuete wait, and the park was getting crowded rapidly. By the time we got to ride Journey to Atlantis, the line was over a hour and a half. We decided to wait on the singer riders line, which only took 20 minuets (that's why we love single rider lines!). The Coaster was interesting as a mix between a log flume and a family Coaster. At the end of our day we went to ride Shamu Express (to get the Coaster credit.) Ironically, that was the longest we waited at the park. The wait was over 30 minuets! For a kiddie Coaster! It was about 5:00 and the park was crowded.
We then decided to leave Sea World Orlando. Overall the park was very nice. It had great animal shows, and great Coasters!
On Wednesday April 4th, 2012 Coaster Of The Day went to Universal Orlando (Universal's Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Orlando). On that day the park was very crowded. When we got the the park at approximately 10 am the park was already packed. First we headed to Islands of Adventure, like most people. The first thing we went to was Incredible Hulk Coaster. The wait for it was already over 1.5 hours. We decided not to wait and headed around the park. Each ride had over an hour wait. By the time we got to the Jurassic Park section of the park, we decided to get the Express Pass. The pass was for both parks, and unlimited rides, and it was about $230 dollars for two people. The price was very expensive, but if we have not gotten the pass, we would have only been able to do a few rides.
After we got the pass, we headed to the Wizening World of Harry Potter. At about 11:30 am the line for Harry Potter and the forbidden journey had a wait time of over 3 hours. On that attraction Express Pass was not allowed, so we headed to ride Dragons Challenge. We waited about 5 minuets with the pass (compared to over an hour). This was the first time I rode Dragons Challenge (Dueling Dragons). I enjoyed the ride a lot, but the ride would have been complete if both sides were racing, and sadly they were not. It was very heard to decide which side was better (because they were both great), but I would have to say the Hungarian Horntail (blue fire) was a better Coaster. After that we then headed back to the Incredible Hulk. This was also the first time I rode this Coaster and I was very impressed. I rode it front row and it was breathtaking. It is currently B&M's only launched Coaster and it was great, and defiantly one of there best creations. (I hope B&M created more launched Coasters in the future!). While we were there we went on Spiderman. This year the film clips were converted into HD and it looked great!
It was about 1 pm then, and we headed to Universal Studios. We headed to Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, but Express Pass was not permitted on that Coaster. Instead we went for lunch at Finnegan's Bar and Grill (the restaurant across the Mummy Coaster). It was a good place to eat with great Irish food, and it was nice to go to a sit down restaurant to relax for a quick meal. With our stomachs full we headed to ride the Mummy Coaster. Even with our Express Pass we still had to wait about 30 minuets to ride. Manufactured by Premier Coasters, this was a great family launched Coaster. It was enjoyable for adults and also smaller kids will like it. We then headed to ride Men in Black: Alien Attack. On the way there we passed the old site where Jaws was. It was very sad to Jaws gone, but whatever goes in its place, should be amazing. Like always Men in Black was a great fun ride. About half way through the ride, it broke down. We were stuck on it for about 15 minutes. It was fun and interesting to be stuck on that ride and see the town full of aliens frozen and dead with movement. Then we headed over to The Simpsons ride. Being a big fan of the the Simpsons, I loved the ride. The pre-shows and the ride itself made me crying with laughter. It was one of the best simulator ride I have ever gone on. (Check out our Construction Update on Universal's Cinematic Spectacular Lagoon Show)
We then headed back to ride the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. There at the rockit I meet a ride attendant, Zach. We started to talk about Roller Coasters. He was very nice and took us to the front of the line, on the front row. I highly thank him for this, and he made our day! Here is a special shout out to Zach!
It was about 5 pm then, and we headed back over to Islands of Adventure. We got back on a quick ride on Hulk, and headed to ride Jurassic Park River Adventure. JPRA was a great ride, and it had great themeing. It was awesome to see like dinosaur animatronics. After that we made the mecca to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. We never rode it before and waited over 2 hours to ride it. It was a good ride and worth the wait to ride it at least once. (I will never ride it again and wait that long).
It was about 8:30 and we headed back over to Universal Studios. We made sure we got to the 9:00 show of Terminator 2: 3D. As always, that show is amazing, and one of the best amusement park shows. If you are a big fan of the Terminator movies, this is a must ride. It was 9:30 then and we had 30 minuets in the park left. We went to ride Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit a few more times at night. (Check out our Construction Update on Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem)
Then our day was sadly over. It was a great day, but the parkways wickedly crowded. We did miles of walking and our legs were sore. If we have never bought the Express Pass, we would not been able to ride all the Coasters that we did. I recommend getting this pass at Universal if you go. It truely was worth the money for it. At the park we got over 1 hour of Coaster Video footage and we hope to release it soon!
