On Monday June 25th, 2012 the Coaster Of The Day crew visited Knoebels Amusement Resort. Knoebels is an old fashioned, classic Amusement Park in Elysburg, Pennsylvania. They have great, classic, one of a kind rides! Overall, it was a great day at one of the best Amusement Parks!
We arrived at the park at approximately 3 pm. We decided to wait until 5 pm to get a unlimited ride bracelet for $23 dollars, instead of $39 dollars for an all day wristband. The Black Diamond Roller Coaster and the Haunted House were not included in the bracelet, so we bought ride tickets for those right away and rode them both. Both rides had no wait and the park was empty for most of the day.
Knoebels did a great gob with remastering the Black Diamond, which was formally Golden Nugget at Dinosaur Beach in Wildwood, NJ. It was nice to see this classic Coaster operating again, where it will be kept in great shape at Knoebels.
Also, the Haunted House at Knoebels was fantastic. It is defiantly one of the best Haunted Houses EVER. If you love Haunted Houses and dark rides, you must ride the Haunted House at Knoebels.
It was then about 4 pm, and we decided to have dinner. Knoebels is known for having fantastic food. It has even won "Golden Ticket Awards" from "Amusement Today", for having the best food at an Amusement Park for over 10 years. We ate at the Alamo Restaurant, which is a sit down restaurant at the park. The food was good quality, and inexpensive.
It was finally 4:50 and we bought a ride bracelet, for unlimited rides. First, we headed over to ride one of the best Wooden Coasters around, Phoenix. Phoenix is a classic "out and back" Wooden Coaster, with great airtime. There are no seatbelts on the Coaster, however; a buzz lap bar restraint system is available. There is amazing ejector airtime due to this lack of seatbelts. The Coaster is also silk smooth, and this is very rare on Wooden Coasters . The line was about 10 minuets, so we rode the Coaster a few times.
We then headed over to ride the Looper. The Looper is a one of a kind ride, and one of the only ones in operation. In this classic Allen Hershel ride, Riders sit face to face and try to loop each other around. This is one of the best looping rides, so we kept on riding it. We then took a construction Update video of the Flying Turns. The Flying Turns is a Wooden Bobsled Coaster, that was going to originally open in 2007, but never opened due to numerous problems. Now, the station track has been removed for work and maintenance, and the trains are not currently at the park.
After getting looped around, we headed over to ride the other Woodie at the park, Twister. Twister is a twisted Wooden Coaster. The ride is very rough and shaky, but during this previous winter, Knoebels re-tracked sections of the Coaster. The ride experience has improved a lot, and is now a more enjoyable Coaster.
After getting looped around, we did a few more rides in the park including the Power Surge and the Log Flume. We even took another ride on the Haunted House, Phoenix, Looper, and the Black Diamond. It was about 8:00 and we decided to ride the classic Carrousel. This Carrousel is one of a kind, and features rings, for riders to catch. We then headed to ride Scooters, which has been voted the best Bumper Cars on the planet, and stay true to their title. These bumper cars are wicked and are an enjoyable experience. Next, we headed over to ride the kiddie Coaster at the park, Kosmos Kurves. Finally, we went on the scenic Skyride, which brings you up a mountain, and you can catch spectacular views of the park. After that, our day at Knoebels was sadly over. We then drove an hour south to Hershey, PA.
Our day at Knoebels was great, and memorable. Knoebels is a great park with amazing Wooden Coasters, Bumper Cars, Carousel, classic rides, and dark rides. If you have never visited Knoebles, we highly suggest you plan a visit to this classic Amusement Park!
