Its that time of the year again, where rumors for next years attractions start to become strong. The long time rumor for Six Flags Great Adventure is the addition of a drop tower to the park, possibly attached to the support structure of Kingda Ka. If this is still in serious consideration for the park, the new Drop Tower would be the tallest Drop Tower on the plant.
If this becomes true, the only problem is there is no perfect path to the support tower of Kingda Ka, as it is far away from the current paths in the park. Last year, I proposed a path that just extended from the entrance of Kingda Ka, along the launch track, to the structure. While this seems like it would be the best idea to do, it doesn't seem like Six Flags wants to do this.
Another 2014 rumor besides the Drop Tower is the rumored removal of Rolling Thunder. The Coaster has been rumored to be removed for a long time, due to its age, lack of popularity, and condition. Screamscape received an email a few weeks ago warning people "Ride Rolling Thunder while you can." Also based on the history of SFGA, the park seems to love to remove Roller Coasters, as every few years they remove another one (it must be one of their hobbies.)
Also, we visited SFGA yesterday (8/12/13) and I spoke to a manager at the park walking around. I asked her if she heard the rumor about removing Rolling Thunder. She said "I have personally not heard anything, but I know the one side will not be in operation for the rest of the season. But remember, the ride is really old." Based on her tone she knew about it, but can't tell anyone official information.
I would be extremely sad if they remove Rolling Thunder. Not because I love the Coaster, it is a decently good Coaster, but I hate to see a Coaster removed, no matter how it is. Whatever SFGA decides to do, I hope they keep Rolling Thunder.
This picture shows an ariel view of the section of the park including Kingda Ka, Rolling Thunder, and El Toro. It shows that there is enough room to make a pathway extension from the entrance of Kingda Ka. Also, if Rolling Thunder is removed, there will be plenty of room to have a nice, large pathway to Kingda Ka, and possibly expand the park with more rides and Coasters in the future.

If I had my choice for SFGA 2014 attractions, I would love to see a large S&S Drop Tower in Movie Town to see that section of the park back to life again. (I really hope SFGA will add more attractions in Movie Town.) But if SFGA decides to put the drop tower on Kingda Ka, I would like it, but I just hope they keep Rolling Thunder. (But if Rolling Thunder stays, wouldn't it be an awesome idea to keep one side of Rolling Thunder the same, and get Rocky Mountain to do an overhaul to the otherside of Rolling Thunder, similar to what American Eagle at Six Flags Great America might receive in 2014. Then we would have 3 awesome Wooden Coasters all right next to each other!)
What do you think Six Flags Great Adventure will receive in 2014? A Drop Tower? Also, do you think Rolling Thunder will be removed?
If you have not hear the horrible news yet, sadly a women died while riding the New Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Texas on Friday July 19th, 2013. The victim was reported to be Rosy Esparza/Rosa Irene Ayala-Gaona, who was riding with her son right before she fell to her death. This tragic accident was very shocking and upsetting for her family, and everyone who witnessed it. It must have been very scary and heartbreaking watching your mother, or a random person, fall over 100 feet off of a Roller Coaster. Our hearts and prays are out to Rosy's family Rest in Peace.
While this accident surely occurred, it is too early for people to start blaming and pointing fingers, as this accident just occurred and has not fully been investigated yet. But, we can look to see what occurred though. We know before she rode the ride the victim, Rosy, was nervous about riding and did not feel secure. Based on her appearance, she was a bit overweight, which could have contributed to the accident, as she was probably to big and barely fit into the seat. Also, herself and others surrounding talked about how the lap bar did not "click" down enough. Finally, reports say she fell out during a "turn" of the Coaster.
The story is already strange for many reasons. First, if Rosy did not feel safe, why did she even ride then? Secondly, The Texas Giant's lap bars do not "click" when they come down, because they use a hydraulic system. Most Roller Coasters lap bars make a "click" when they come down, but not this one. Thirdly, it is highly unlikely that Rosy fell out during a turn of the Coaster. On a Roller Coaster, when you enter a turn, the Force of Gravity pushes you in your seat, not out of your seat. So if this happens, how could she have fallen out of her seat if Gravity was forcing her in her seat? This its self makes the whole story stranger, because the story from the source material is already false, so we will never find out the actual truth of what truly happened. All we know, and all we will ever know is someone fell out of The New Texas Giant and passed away.
You can read more about the incident here and here
This incident that has occurred brings up the question of safety of Amusement Parks and Roller Coasters. Even though someone recently passed away because of a Roller Coasters, they are still very safe. In-fact, they are among the safest things a person could do in their life. Only a few people die each year in the world because of Roller Coasters. You have a one in a 24 million chance of dying from a Roller Coaster, which is slim to none. This is nothing compared to the every 1000+ people who get injured in an automobile accident every day. But why are most Americans scared to look at a Roller Coaster, when most Americans just love to speed and get into automobile accidents, where they get injured and even die.? No one know exactly why. Most of the time its psychological.
A good way to explain it is by listening to some advice once said by Heath Ledger when he portrayed The Joker in the film The Dark Knight. He said basically that when a large people get killed, no one cares, but when a few people die in different, odd ways, everyone panics and goes crazy. This could be applied here. No one is scared to get into a car when they have an extreme chance of dying, but when one person dies on a Roller Coaster everyone panics, goes crazy, and say they will never ride a Roller Coaster again in their life. I believe this is obscene, crazy, and ridiculous. This gets me a little angry as I do not understand why people get so afraid after an incident like this occurs, when people see and cause death everyday. But again, that is just my view as I view it, being a Roller Coaster Expert. Sadly, we will never find out the reason why.
For now, we would like to wish everyone the best of luck, and to be safe at Amusement Parks.
For the 2013 Dorney Park received no new attractions. This was the first time in years the park has not received any new attractions for an operating season. When an Amusement Park receives no new attractions for one year it is likely the following year we can expect a new, big attraction.
I believe in either 2014, 2015, or 2016 Dorney Park will receive a new Coaster, but 2015 is more likely. The last new Coaster Dorney received was Hydra The Revenge back in 2015. The Park has received other Coasters in years past, with Possessed in 2008 and Stinger in 2012, but they are both used Coasters from other parks. Dorney Park is in desperate need of a good new Coaster.
As what this new Coaster could be, I am hoping a new Wooden Coaster. Dorney only has one Wooden Coaster to its line up, Thunderhawk, built in 1923, and a new modern Wooden Coaster will fit perfectly into the park. The park has a good line up of Looping Coasters (Stinger, Hydra, Talon), large non-inverting Coasters (Possessed, Steel Force), and Family Coasters (Woodstock Express, Wild Mouse, Thunderhawk). A new Mid-Sized Wooden Coaster would fit perfectly into the park.
For what type of Wooden Coaster, I think Dorney would benefit from a GCI Twister Style Coaster, similar to the new Gold Striker at California's Great America. This would also fit into the parks budget, as those Wooden Coasters are less then $10 million, compared to a new Steel Coaster that could cost over $15 million dollars. I hope if Dorney would get a new Wooden Coaster, it would have a Western theme or feel.
There are a few locations this potential Coaster could be placed. My first bet is where the Thunder Canyon River Rapids Ride is located. The ride has a huge footprint, and is not a major popular ride (I always forget about it when I visit the park). If it gets removed, it will be a great location for the possible new Wooden Coaster, right along the main midway.
If Dorney would not want to remove any attractions, there is room by the entrance of Steel Force, around Dinosaurs Alive. This is a great location of a new park expansion and new Coaster. However, it is far from the entrance of the park, and is located in the far back corner of the park.
This picture shows the raft rapid ride, Thunder Canyon, the Main Midway, and Talon. This shows that Thunder Canyon has a huge footprint, and it would provide more then enough room for a new Wooden Coaster.
(Photo taken from Google Earth)
This picture shows the backwoods, behind Steel Force, where the Dinosaurs Alive is located.
Without Dinosaurs Alive, this would be a great area to expand the park, and add in a new Coaster.
(Photo taken from Google Earth)
If Dorney does not received a new Wooden Coaster, I would guess their new Coaster would be a family Coaster or some-sort. But my bet is on a new Wooden Coaster.
Here is a possible few year plan for Dorney Park
2014: New Ride in the park and new Waterslides at Wildwater Kingdom
2015: New Wooden Coaster
2016: Park Improvements
Do you think Dorney Park could receive a new Wooden Coaster in a few years?
For years there have been rumors that Terminator 2 3D at Universal Studios Orlando will be removed, sometime in the future. This rumor began for many reasons, including the low ridership, lack of popularity, its age, and the fact that it is based on a movie that is 22 years old and a franchise that is declining. Rumors increased when T2 3D at Universal Studios Hollywood closed in late 2012.
But, will Universal Studios Orlando remove T2 3D? The answer is probably yes, and eventually they will. The question now is 'when will this happen' and not 'will this happen.' I believe Universal Studios Orlando will remove T2 3D eventually, but not soon. When the park makes the decision to close down T2 3D, they will most likely replace it with another attraction. Universal Studios Orlando is among the most visited parks in America and will want to have as many attractions as possible. When Universal Studios Hollywood removed their version of T2 3D it was replaced with Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, which is being built now. Basically saying, Universal Studios Orlando would not remove T2 3D and have an empty space in their park. The park has a history of only removing attractions if they will be replaced with another one immediately. When T2 3D is planed to be removed, expect a new attraction to replace it.
But when will this exactly happen? It is hard to tell, but I would guess in a few years, at least in 2014. In the past few years and currently, Universal Studios Orlando has been adding a lot of new attractions. In 2012 they opened Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem and Universal's Cinematic Spectacular Show. In 2013 they will open Transformers: The Ride and the new themed The Simpsons Springfield area. Finally, in 2014 they will open the much anticipated second phase of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, called Diagon Alley/London. Universal Studios Orlando easily spent at least $300 million dollars in attractions between 2012 and 2014, and that's a lot of money. They would most likely save up money for a few years before adding a new attraction, which would replace T2 3D. With this reason, I would think T2 3D will be safe from being removed in the next few years.
Personally, I would be very sad to see T2 3D. It is hands down one of my favorite attractions ever at an amusment park. I am a big fan of the Terminator series. I dont know why, but for some reason I just
(On a side note, there is a problem that Universal Studios Orlando is facing, and T2 3D is a great example of it. A large number of their attractions is based on popular movie and TV franchises that are very popular today (ex: The Simpsons Ride, Men in Black: Alien Attack, Shrek 4-D, Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, Transformers: The Ride, and many more.) What will happen in the future, when these franchises are ended and are not popular with people anymore? Eventually, all of these attractions will not be popular by the general public anymore, and the park will have to be forced to remove it, and replace it with another attraction. Universal Studios Orlando will be stuck on a cycle of replacing old, not popular ride themes with new ones.)
So, I think that T2 3D at Universal Studios Orlando will be removed after 2014, only to be replaced by a new attraction. What do you think? Write your thoughts down below.
During Spring Break, on March 26th, 2013, we visited Busch Gardens Tampa, and began our 2013 Coaster season. While our day was very interesting (park trip report to come soon), one of our main focuses was Gwazi.
Gwazi's Tiger side has been out of operation for over 6 months. Rumor has it that Gwazi has suffered major budget cuts, and was forced to keep only one side in operation. This is extremely sad for the Wooden Coaster as there is no care for it. The Tiger sides trains have been stripped and there is a loading bridge over the track, for handicap and Quick Que riders to enter. The Tiger sides entrance has even been removed. It seems that Busch Gardens Tampa is trying to create Gwazi has only one side, and not two, to make the general public forget the true ride experience.
Now, what will the future for Gwazi be? No one knows the exact answer to that.
In all honestly, I think Busch Gardens does not know exactly what they will do with Gwazi, but they will need to come to an answer soon. When they first opened the Coaster, they wanted it to be a huge hit and one if the most popular rides in the park. Over time, it failed to live up to the parks, and the general public's greatest expectations. I'm not saying Gwazi is a terrible Coaster. It is a good Wooden Coaster, but not the best. If I had a choice to ride any Coaster at the park, I would hands down pick SkeiKra, Cheetah Hunt, Scorpion, Kumba, or Montu over Gwazi. A few years ago the park tried to improve the Coaster by adding Millennium Flyer trains to make the Coaster smoother. That certainly helped, but the Coaster didn't click with the general public. For now, they want to keep one side in operation, and see how that works for the Coaster. If they are successful, they will keep Gwazi like that. However, the park can not keep Gwazi like that forever.
An action will need to be done, but Gwazis future does not look to bright. Gwazi receiving budget cuts is scary in the first place. BGT will never make budget cuts to their major Coasters, like SheiKra or Cheetah Hunt. If there treating the Coaster like this, they will never pay money to improve it again, like add Topper Track.
If BGT will not improve it, Gwazi may be removed from the park. I was talking to an employee at the park, and she said the there are rumors that the park will remove Gwazi and put in a new Coaster in it's place... I was shocked to think that, as it will be a terrible idea. However, after much thought, I think it can be a good idea. Gwazi has a huge footprint, even bigger than the monster SheiKra. If Gwazi is removed, there will be a ton of new room to add a new section to the park and a nice new (steel) Coaster.
This picture shows the huge footprint of Gwazi, compared to other Coasters, like SheiKra and Scorpion. It also shows the employee center, located in the center of the park.
If Gwazi was removed, and the center was relocated, BGT would have a lot of new area to expand.
(Picture provided by Google Earth)
So IF Gwazi will get removed, when will it be? Personally I think it will be removed during the 2014 season or later, after the new Drop Tower (Desert Dive) is added to the park. I think the reason why the new Drop Tower has been delayed for quite so time was that the park was deciding what to do first: possibly remove Gwazi, or add the Drop Tower. I think they mad a good choice with adding the Drop Tower for the early 2014 season, and not making an action on Gwazi.
What do you think the future of Gwazi be? Remove it or restore it? I hope for restoring it, but if the park would want to remove it, they could always remove just one side. (How awesome would it be if the park removes the Tiger side, send it to Busch Gardens Williamsburg and resorting it? Then BGT will have room to add in a new ride or attractions. But that will never happen.)
What would you like to see happen to Gwazi, and do you care for it?
Photos of Gwazi: Taken by us (Coaster Of The Day)
Before I begin, I know this post may seem crazy to many of you, as so many people are not focused on the future of Cedar Point, as in 2013 they will receive the long awaited new Coaster, GateKeeper. But exactly a year ago now, everyone was excited and speculating on Cedar Point in 2013. Then, Cedar Point already had planned on getting GateKeeper in 2013. Now, the park already knows what they will receive in 2014, but speculation is so small, due to the focus on GateKeeper.
*Note: This post is JUST for speculation on what Cedar Point could receive in the future. We do not want to create rumors, we are just speculating the future of Cedar Point*
Based on the fact that Cedar Point is spending over $25 million dollars for GateKeeper in 2013, it is very rare that the park will add a new significant attraction in 2014. The park does receive something new each year, and will most likely add something new in the park, even if it is a small new restaurant, new kiddie ride, or small park improvements.
In 2015 I expect Cedar Point to receive a new ride, particularly some Thrill Ride, or even a few new small flat family rides around the park. Back in May 2012, I thought Cedar Point would add in a new small Kiddie Coaster in the park, near the Planet Snoopy Section, to increase popularity in that area for kids. Hopefully the park still has plans like that in the future (particularly 2014-2016) to increase their Coaster count.
However, I have a feeling that Cedar Points next "big" Coaster would occur in approximately 2016. It seems like the likely year. However, that year could move to 2017 if the park decides to add another family style Coaster before it adds in a new major Coaster. (Similar to how Knotts Berry Farm was rumored to add in a new major Giga Coaster in 2013, but decided to add in a family Wild Mouse Coaster instead, and their major Coaster project has been pushed back to 2015.) However, at the beginning of 2013, it is very hard to picture what exactly Cedar Point will add in future years. (Remember, this post is just speculation)
Now, it is very had to decide what type of new Coaster Cedar Point would add in the future. Based on their huge Coaster collection now, Cedar Point does only have 2 true Wooden Coasters. One is regarded as one of the worst Wooden Coasters, due to its roughness (Mean Streak.) The other, is a classic family Wooden Coaster that does not gain as much attention as it should (Blue Streak). Cedar Point is regarded as the best Amusement Park in the World, and its Wooden Coasters are kind-of-lame. They should invest in a new Wooden Coaster that would change the parks Coaster collection, the park, and its skyline. Myself, along with most of the Coaster community, would love to see a refurbishment to Mean Streak by Rocky Mountain. However, it is somewhat unlikely as the park is currently working on a mult-year system to fix the Coaster, which has been going on for years, and it is improving the Coaster. More people are starting to enjoy the Coaster, and it is gaining popularity. After Mean Streak is gaining more positive reviews, and the park is putting this much work into the ride, it will be unlikely they will transform the Coaster into a Hybrid Coaster, similar to New Texas Giant, or Iron Rattler. A new Wooden Coaster by Rocky Mountain (like Outlaw Run) would be more likely, and awesome. A new GCI or Gravity Group Classic Woodie would fit perfectly on the coast of Lake Erie. However, my personal favorite addition would be a new Intamin Pre-Fab Coaster, like El Toro. El Toro is regarded as the best Wooden Coaster on the planet, but it is the only one of its kind in the United States. Why has not an Amusement Park added a sister Coaster to El Toro after its huge popularity and fame? If Cedar Point will not invest in an Intamin Pre-Fab Wooden Coaster, hopefully another Amusement Park would. Imagine Cedar Point, the best Amusement Park in the world, gaining one of the best Wooden Coasters. It would be amazing, and a great investment. During Coaster Mania 2011, Dick Kinzel HINTED that he himself rode El Toro, and thought it was fantastic.
The location of Cedar Points next new Coaster would be interesting. The park is located on a peninsula, and land is very scarce and hard to find. They just removed 2 Coasters, and one ride, so a ride or Coaster removal is likely to happen. In 2011, there was a rumor that Cedar Points new Coaster would be located right next to Blue Streak and Raptor, where the former Dark Ride was, and where a few flat rides are located today. I am not sure if that area is still under consideration, or if it was regarded. Another few locations could be in Frontier Town, or another small spot along the shore line. Where ever the exact location will be, it is most likely it would occur in the middle section (around Top-Thrill Dragster and Magnum area) towards the back of the park, in Frontier Town (around Maverick and Mean Streak). The location would be here because they are currently remodeling the whole entrance and front of the park, and for the next Coaster would focus on other locations of the park.
That completes our speculation for Cedar Point for the future. We will have more news within the next few years.
Thanks for reading! What do you think Cedar Point's next attraction will be?
Now that Son of Beast was (finally) taken down, its time to speculate what they will receive in 2014. Based on the enormous footprint of Son of Beast, and that Kings Island has not revived a new Coaster in four years, it is likely that the park will receive something huge! It is expected for 2014, but might run into 2015 based on the size and planning for the new attraction(s). Screamscape believes that it will not be a park expansion and a new section to the park, but more of a new Coaster and/or attractions. He also thinks it will be one huge steel Coaster (not wood) and could be a B&M Invert, or Giga Coaster. Screamscape is correct over 90% of the time, so I wouldn't be surprised to see one of his predictions come true.
Now, what do I think? I think this could be true. A few years ago, there was rumor for adding a new Coaster and expansion near Firehawk. That idea could be in the former Son of Beast spot now. I think we could very see a new Giga Coaster, based on the size of the footprint, and the high success of Cedar Fair's other Giga Coasters - Millennium Force, Intimidator 305, and Leviathan - as they are some of the best Coasters on the planet. Cedar Fair would love to build another World Coaster leader. For the manufacturer, I hope it is Intamin, because I prefer Intamin over B&M, but wouldn't mind to see another B&M as they are amazing.
Kings Island could opt into getting a B&M Floorless or Invert, but manufacturing of these types of Coasters are declining due to new styles of Coasters, so it is unlikely. I also wouldn't be shocked if the park builds a B&M Wingrider Coaster. I hope this does not happen, as Cedar Point's GateKeeper should be the tallest Wingrider for a long time (at 170 feet) and I hope Kings Island would build a Coaster at least 200+ feet.
Another option for Kings Island is another Wooden Coaster, to be the "Grandson of Beast." They could get a nice GCI, new Gravity Group Woodie, (another) looping Woodie by Rocky Mountain, or hopefully an Intamin Wooden Coaster, like El Toro.
In my opinion, I think the best choice for a new Coaster to replace the Son of Beast is 1) A new huge, epic Intamin Giga Coaster (similar to Millennium Force, or Intimidator 305), 2) An epic Intamin Blitz Coaster (similar to Maverick), 3) An epic Intamin Wooden Coaster (similar to El Toro).
However, it is still too early to see what Kings Island will get in 2014, but here are many options. Whatever they will receive in 2014, I just hope they will not take down another Coaster, because it is so sad to see them leave. There are rumors of Cedar Fair removing all of its Arrow Looping Coasters over the next five or so years, so Vortex might be on the chopping block soon, but it looks like it will be safe for now. The other Arrow Coasters at the park, Adventure Express and Flight Deck (ironically right next to Son of Beast) could be on the chopping block as well. But they should be safe for at least until 2014. Hopefully they will not get removed soon.
Thanks for reading! We will have more updates on Kings Islands 2014 Coaster soon!
It has been a long time sense we last posted to our Blog, as the major Amusement Park Rumors have decreased due to many official announcements. Now, the rumor mill has started to rise back up again!
One of the most anticipated new attractions for 2014 is the long-time rumored Giga Drop Tower, to be attached to Kingda Ka's Support Structure, to become the tallest Drop Tower in the world. The word for this has decreased for a good amount of time, but it has risen again. From sources, this Drop Tower has been approved to be built. The only problem is, how will guests reach that area, as the only way to reach the Support tower is through Restricted Access paths. We have talked about this situation in previous posts (post 1) (post 2). Our first post talks about creating a path between Rolling Thunder, and Kingda Ka, to the support tower. In September 2012, we went on a VIP tour of that area, and it was filled with maintenance buildings, and it was small and not too clean. They will have to revamp that area if that does happen. Our second post talks about the rumored Removal of Rolling Thunder, and using that space for a park expansion. This could happen, but the rumors for Rolling Thunders Removal has decreased. Another possible location for the new path was is to use the former Parking lot/restroom outpost at the end of the Wild Safari, as now it will become Safari Off-Road Adventure. However, that could be used for the new Safari Off-Road Adventure. We will find our more news soon.
The addition of the Worlds Tallest Drop Tower to Kingda Ka's Support Structure is becoming promising! Stay Tuned for more updates!
